It has been a little over a month since I last updated this eHow Experiment series – and oh do I have good news to tell you!
If you remember, last month I had one article sitting on the second spot in Google search listings, one on the third spot, and another on the sixth. The other two showing up in search results were sitting on the twenty-fifth and fifty-first spot in Google. Keep in mind that these were broad match results for each keyword phrase, instead of phrase match (the results from exact searches).
Well, I noticed that my eHow earnings this month had improved quite a bit lately since last year. Here’s a screenshot of my earnings from last year (2010). You can click on it to enlarge the image.
Last month, I was earning about $8.81 a day – $2.44 an article (eHow removed one of my articles by the way, though I’m not sure which one – now I have 112 articles published).
Now, let’s look at my earnings so far for this month (keep in mind that we’re only 12 days into the month and earnings don’t include what I accrued today).
So far, this month I’m earning $13.32 a day – a 51% increase from last month! If I can keep this up, I’ll earn $412.92 for the entire month of January – well surpassing my overall goal of earning $339 a month.
After looking at these stats, the first thing I did was open Market Samurai to analyze my ranking data. I wanted to find out which page each article is ranking on in Google search results.

If you don’t understand what each acronym means, I explain it all in the last experiment. The green numbers show areas where I’ve improved and the red numbers show areas where I’ve gotten worse since the last time I checked for rank updates. Grey areas stayed the same.
Now, looking at the list, do you find anything out of the ordinary? I’ll give you a hint: look at my broad and phrase match rankings.
Yes! One of my articles managed to rank on the first spot of Google. I can’t even describe how excited I am! I immediately searched for my keyword phrase in Google search for myself – and, yep, Market Samurai is dead on!
So, I checked to see how much money this specific article earned so far this month.
Only $2.61.
Well, OK. I then estimated (based off of my current earnings) how much I would make with this article by the end of the month. Based on my beautiful green calculator here, I can expect $7.36 by the end of this month (I multiplied daily earnings by 31).
That’s an improvement from last month (last month I earned $4.58 for this article), but the earnings per 1,000 page views for this particular article is pretty low. So far, this article has seen the most traffic but also the worst earnings for the number of page views it has. To get a better idea of what I’m talking about, this article has earned a total of $38.51 with 49,650 views since it was first published. I only have one other article with views in the 40k range (and yes, I’m also working on its page rankings – it’s not even on the first page yet), and that one has earned $1,227.52 in total income already (and it was published 2 months after the article I just mentioned).
Not good, and this tells me one thing – I need to work on what ads are being displayed on the page of the first article I mentioned. I’ll be able to do this by targeting brand names in the article, which will hopefully trigger more relevant ads. So, this is exactly what I’ll be doing this month. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
I Dug Deeper
Since my newly ranked article isn’t the one making the incredible difference in earnings, I decided to dig a little bit deeper.

And, to no surprise, I discovered that the article mentioned above that accrued $1,227.52 in total income (to the right is a picture) is kicking butt where the other articles are concerned. So far this month, it has earned $119.38. After comparing its past and current rankings in Google, I discovered that its rankings did improve. Since I last updated this experiment, it sat on the twenty-fifth spot in Google. Now, its on the twentieth for broad match and ranking on the fourth spot in Google for phrase match.
Incredible!
Could it be luck? I don’t know, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let this opportunity slip by.
The funny thing is, I haven’t backlinked this article much yet – only once just yesterday. However, this particular article was one of the ones I edited on-page (mainly adding info – I didn’t really touching any of the keywords at all). But just think – if I can get this article on page one of Google, earnings might even double! I could be making over $200 a month with just this article alone!
I’m definitely going to be renewing my efforts and focusing all of my backlinks on this article until it hits that #1 spot.
I also noticed that a residual income article I wrote on Demand Studios on a similar topic is also doing well, though not nearly as well as the above article. However, I wrote this one not too long ago and already its ranking on the first page of Google and earning over $4 for the current month. I’m pretty excited to see how this one does as well – though I’m not going to backlink it just yet.
How about you? Did you notice an increase in eHow earnings?

Hey Christina,
This is a great discovery. My earnings are up significantly as well. I think that the back linking that I did last summer and a few months ago is paying off. Also I guess the articles have “seasoned”. If my new daily averages continue through the rest of the month, I will have a record month. It is so great to hear that you and others are doing well too.
Hey Alicia,
That’s great to hear! I’m glad your earnings are improving as well. I was reading just the other day that a lot of people are noticing higher earnings from eHow.
Things are definitely looking up. It won’t be long now until my highest earner sees the first page of Google. Even if it doesn’t, it’s exciting to watch its growth.
Christina
I haven’t tried eHow yet, but your results are forcing me to try it out myself…. Lets hope I too can got the exciting result.
Hey,
eHow actually closed their site to new writers. If you want to write for eHow, you’ll have to do it through Demand Studios, which requires a resume and samples in order to get accepted.
Best of luck!
Christina
That’s great news Christina, well done to you! Seriously, even if the rewards don’t quite materialise, as long as you can ‘feel’ the growth then that’s what truly matters.
I love your overall writing style, and your drive. If you stay in the race, you’ll be sure to get better and better things come your way
Hey Stuart,
Thanks for supporting me through it all. I don’t know how I would feel about it if it wasn’t for the support of everyone here, so I really appreciate you dropping by and boosting my confidence.
Things are looking good for you as well in terms of blogging and getting yourself out there. Keep it up!
I look forward to watching your progress in 2011.

Christina – I love how you make your ambitions open to the universe. There’s no question that you have a strong desire, and that along with your action oriented approach can only meet total fulfillment.
You’re doing big things and on the road to doing even bigger. Seeing your potential in motion is motivating to say the least. Thank you for sharing, for it instantly makes me take a microscopic view at my own projects. Keep it up!
Hey Jk!
Thanks! I’m glad this post was motivating for you. Heck, when I was typing it up, it definitely got me motivated.
Thanks for your awesome support. There’s no doubt in my mind that you too will do amazing things throughout this year. You have a determination and drive that many entrepreneurs don’t – and it will only strengthen your willpower and resolve to achieve more.

Hi Christiana,
I want to say a big thanks to you for helping me know the earning potentials of ehow. I never knew they paid until now. Because of your openness and generousity, I have began the process of registering with them. I will go and read your other article to know more about this online revenue plan. Is there anything I should focus on just starting out now?
I publish my articles on ezine articles and helium, how are they different from ehow in terms of earning potentials?
Thank you.
Hey Tito,
I think that it’s great you’re open to try new things.
At the moment, eHow is closed to new writers. But if you want to write articles for eHow, I strongly suggest you apply to Demand Studios. With Demand Studios you have an option to write residual income articles that will get published on eHow. I’ve published a few myself and, as far as I can tell, the residual income opportunity is just as good as if you were creating content directly on eHow.
As for Ezine Articles and Helium, Ezine Articles are mainly used for marketing and backlinks – you can’t earn money directly from them. You can earn an income directly on Helium, but I believe you have to be extremely active in the community by voting for articles and such to increase your earning potential. You simply don’t have to do that with eHow – you can publish articles, complete rewrites (if you get them), and earn an income without any further action. You can view my content site comparison chart here to get a more detailed look at each site.

Hey Christina!
Currently I’m at $277.50 for the month with Demand. Your post (one of the most commented ones) inspired me. I wasn’t aware that RevShare articles were really worth working on in Demand!
Thanks for the tip !
Hey Steph,
I’m glad the post helped!
I’m definitely all for long-term gain. You won’t make money from your residual income articles in the beginning – but, over time, it really does pay off as your articles get higher up in search engine listings over time. You can also work on backlinking your articles to make even more money.
It’s definitely worth it (in my honest opinion), considering that you generally only make $15 per article on Demand (for upfront pay).

Open and awesome, as always Christina. You are a freak of nature when it comes to writing. It’s really impressive when one is able to see all the work you’ve done as a whole, WOW.
Thanks for bringing your energy and honesty to every post.
Marcus
Thanks Marcus!
Since it’s definitely motivating for me looking back, I know it will be motivating for other writers as well – which is why I decided to share.
Keep on rocking!

Congratulations Christina on your nice improvement from last month. It’s always exciting when you see one of your articles or sites ranking on the first spot of Google.
I am really looking forward to seeing your next update for the eHow Experiment series, and I hope your earnings continue to improve. Are you going to start sending some backlinks to the articles that are performing well?
Hey John,
Thanks for the encouragement! It is exciting, indeed. I only hope that I continue to see improvements!
I actually am sending backlinks to the high earning articles. It definitely helps, especially if a high performer isn’t ranking on the first page of Google yet. Sometime next week (possibly Monday or Wednesday) I’ll be posting up another update with a surprise discovery from one of the articles I’ve been working on.
Thanks for your wonderful comments!
