Entrepreneurs: How Early Do You Rise Out of Bed?

wake up early?

Hey everyone! Within the next few weeks (before the new year), I’ll be writing a guide on how to rise out of bed early and start your day with enthusiasm.

However, this won’t be just a regular guide. I plan to cover the topic in great length and exceed over 3,000 words to provide you all with as much content on the subject as possible to help those of you who want to make a difference in their work routine by starting earlier than they could before.

Now, I know such a guide won’t benefit everyone here. Some of you enjoy working late into the night and would rather sleep late than wake up early. Though I plan to cover how to start your day with enthusiasm and excitement, which will help some of you late sleepers, the main focus will be for those of you who want more hours in your day to write or can’t possibly work nights because of other obligations.

But in order to make this work and to give you as much value as possible, I need your help.

In this ultimate guide, I’ll include some examples of early routines that other top bloggers have as I interview each one. However, I also wanted to record how late or early everyone else gets out of bed and what they would do if they could enthusiastically rise out of bed early without forcing themselves to do so.

Here’s where you come in.

After doing the one second poll below, I would love to hear your thoughts on the topic.

Specifically…

  • How early or late do you wake up in the morning?
  • What prevents you from waking up early?
  • If you could wake up early without forcing yourself to do so, how would that change your routine and career? Would the change be drastic? If you’re already an early riser, how has the transformation changed the way you work?
  • What would you do (or do you do) during your extra free hours if you could start work early?

Here’s the short poll -

Thanks for contributing, and I hope you have a very merry Christmas with years of success ahead!

Christina

  1. I find the opposite to be true – While I can get a lot of “stuff” done in the early morning hours, I really hit my creative stride around 11pm, and it usually lasts until 1:00am or 2:00am. In other words, what time I get up is variable depending on what I need to accomplish.

If I need to get bills paid, run errands, and knock out a to-do list, I’ll get up around 5:30 or 6:00 and get to work. If I’m more focused on writing blog posts, articles, or building a new site, I’ll get up around 10:00am, and save the creative part of my day for after my family settles down for the night.

    • Hey Lyndsy,

I find that my creativity reaches its peak at nights around 9-10pm as well, though I also seem to be creative in the mornings around 8 or 9am. It’s strange how different hours of the day affect everyone differently. It’s also a beautiful thing, because it makes you who you are.

Sounds like you work best in the early mornings and late nights, depending on what you have planned for the day. That’s awesome and, if it works for you, I say keep it up. :)

My problem is that I get up before 7, but my creativity doesn’t really kick in until between 9 and 10. I’d love to learn to get my brain moving earlier. I’d be able to spend more time experimenting with different kinds of writing, start a new blog, work on that ebook that’s kicking around in my head. That extra couple of hours in the morning could really help.

    • Hey Anne,

Thanks for the comment! I completely understand what you mean. Often, I have so many projects left to do or work on at the end of the day. A few extra hours when I’m totally focused and productive would definitely help my workflow and getting things done.

      Love your feedback,

  3. Hi Christina

This is an interesting topic. I find myself agreeing with some previous comments above about finding that later in the day – I’m typing this at 9:42pm – is when I find myself more creative. Like Lyndsy, I find that having little kids help to define your schedule for you, too…

That’s the great thing about the Internet though…you can write all day and night if you like but schedule your posts to appear at whatever time and day you like. Really, your schedule only needs to make sense to you.

    • Hey Carl,

      Thanks for dropping by! :)

I agree – there are just so many other factors that come into play when designing your work routine, with family being a major one. For example, you can’t just start writing when your kids need to be dropped off at school or are storming throughout the house pretending their superman.

You make a good point, and I think that it’s important for other people to keep in mind the outside factors and whether their work routine will conflict with them.

    Hi Christina,

I saw the title of your most recent post on TheSalesLion and had to come over to check it out. I’m an earlier riser, and have been for a while so I wanted to add my perspective in hopes that it adds value to your mission at hand.

My comment may be a little off canter – but still, I hope value is taken.

I rise every morning at 4:45am. My reasoning is simple:
I have a family (Wife + 3 kids) that I love to spend time with so I try to get my “me” time in when no one else is around.

Upon my arise, I first I do some slow stretches for about 10 minutes to warm my body up then off to my workout room. I proceed my stretch with an intense 45 minute workout. I repeat this every single day.

Beyond the health benefits, I find that it’s a challenge every morning… and I mean every morning. The challenge is a direct notch to my discipline belt. I learn increase my discipline by doing things that are challenging to me – especially things that I don’t have to do.

Every single morning – the first thing that comes to my mind is – “wow, I’ve made it another day”. This instantly brings s smile to my face and helps get me into the zone. I know that there’s someone out there who didn’t awake – and knowing that I did, makes me feel that I have a purpose to fulfill.

I enjoyed stopping by – expect to see me again in the future. Peace.

    • Hey JK,

Thanks for joining in! Glad you’re enjoying the blog. :)

And of course – all constructive comments are valuable.

Also, exercise has been proven to improve concentration and energy to start work, so I’m glad that you’ve made it into a habit to exercise every morning. That could possibly be the best time of the day, especially since you start working almost immediately after. Many people I’ve talked to go on jogs around their neighborhood first thing when they wake up, because the fresh air clears their head and they usually feel pumped by the time they get back home. I think that it’s great you’re taking advantage of exercise in the comforts of your home.

And it’s really a beautiful thing to be able to see every morning, watching the sun stretch its limbs as it rises amongst the clouds. Just keep on smiling and the world will smile back at you. :)

Lately I liked sleeping longer since I have been writing posts for my blogs until late at night. But… just got a new puppy and it seems like I won’t get much sleep at all.
To try and answer the questions, I try to get up early because then I have so much time ahead of me (no matter when I get up, I kinda go to bed at the same time).
If I had more time available, I would probably work more on my blogs, I would either write more posts or read other blogs and learn from them.

    • Hey Brankica,

Congrats on the new puppy! You must be excited, besides the fact that the little guy is preventing sleep, heh. ;)

Time seems to be on everyone’s Christmas list, just because it’s so valuable and allows you to get more done than you possibly could without it. But don’t forget that it’s what you do with your current time that matters – while more time is nice, you also have to manage your time wisely and do activities that matter to you and your business.

Using time to write more content for your blog is always a good start. Blogging is a constant learning experience for me, which is why blogging is so captivating and addicting.

Hope to see you around the blog!

I usually get up before daylight because I like to see each new day arrive. My actual up-time fluctuates some through the year because of the change in the seasons but I view this as just a cool part of the rhythm of nature. I also enjoy the early morning quiet:)

  8. Hey Christina!

This is my first time on your blog and definitely made it a little late to this article posting but I felt compelled to read and comment on it.

I am definitely a morning person and get usually get up between 7-8AM. I love making the “coffee run” and getting a quick breakfast. I usually get straight to work by about 9:00AM. My creative mind definitely comes out in the mornings and mid day!

No matter how late I go to bed, I prefer rising up at 4. It gives me plenty of time to finish my job. And yes! one more thing and that is- I can have time to substitute my left over sleep with siesta.
